Writing a Solid Investor Update

Updates build trust with early-stage investors. Focus on sharp learning, capital efficiency, and real traction. Keep it short, honest, numbers-first, and send it monthly.

1The Numbers

Open with the key facts. - Cash position and runway - Monthly burn - User metrics such as signups, active users, and retention - Early revenue through UPI or Razorpay

"Cash sits at 28 lakh. Monthly burn is 3.4 lakh with roughly 8 months of runway. Total signups reached 1,840 this month, up 420. Weekly active users stand at 22 percent."

2What Went Wrong

Describe the setbacks directly. Talk about campaigns that underperformed, features with low usage, or hiring difficulties.

3Learnings

Explain what you took away from those experiences.

"Our Instagram campaign in Hindi and Marathi brought traffic yet delivered poor conversion and retention. We realized the onboarding assumed too much digital comfort from users in Tier 2 towns. We have simplified the flow and shifted to WhatsApp as the main entry point."

4Last Month’s Plan vs Reality

Share what you set out to do and the actual outcome.

"We targeted 1,500 users and stronger retention. We reached 1,840 users, yet retention stayed at 22 percent. The core loop still feels complex for many first-time users."

5Next Month’s Plan

List two or three clear priorities.

"Launch the simplified WhatsApp onboarding. Run three small experiments in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Complete fifty more user interviews."

6Specific Help Needed

Ask for concrete support.

"We need warm intros to angels who have backed early consumer plays in Tier 2 and Tier 3 India. We also welcome referrals for full-stack or mobile developers in Bangalore or Pune. Share any quick feedback on the new landing page."

7Ask for Their View

Close with a real strategic question.

"We see some small businesses using the tool. We wonder whether to explore a lightweight B2B angle alongside the consumer focus. Your thoughts on this would help."

Subject:July Update – Learning fast in India

Hi everyone,

Here are the numbers.

Cash sits at 28 lakh. Burn is 3.4 lakh per month with about 8 months of runway. Total signups reached 1,840, up 420 this month. Weekly active users are at 22 percent. Revenue touched 18,000 from nine paying pilots through Razorpay.

We pushed a vernacular campaign in Hindi and Marathi. Traffic came in, but conversion stayed low and many users dropped off after day one. Onboarding asked for too much digital familiarity from people in smaller towns.

We learned that users in these areas need extreme simplicity. We have rebuilt around UPI-first flows and WhatsApp Business API. This change should prevent similar wasted time.

Last month we aimed for 1,500 users and better retention. We beat the user goal, but the product still lacks stickiness for the mass market.

Next month we will launch the new WhatsApp onboarding, test three low-cost experiments in UP and Maharashtra, and finish fifty more user interviews. We have now spoken to 110 users in total.

We need warm intros to two or three angels active in early consumer or SaaS in Tier 2 and Tier 3 India. We also look for strong full-stack or mobile developers in Bangalore or Pune. Please share any quick thoughts on our updated landing page.

One question stands out. Some small businesses have started using the tool internally. We wonder whether we should test a lightweight B2B version in parallel with the consumer side. Your perspective on this would mean a lot.

Thanks for your support. I am happy to jump on a call anytime.
